the way i view ‘new beginnings’

Goals are good for us. If you don’t have any goals in life, what are you doing and where are you going? Nowhere. One of my goals for this year is to work on my photography lighting. I do love some good natural window light but there are so many other beautiful lighting techniques out there and I am eager to embrace them. Soon, I plan to order some triggers and a light stand and work with off camera flash but during the month of January I chose to challenge myself with both low light and high contrast light, typically the exact type of lighting I would run away from.

And how convenient that I am able to incorporate this goal, lighting, with a personal challenge. Since September 11th I have been shooting 1 image a day and posting them over on The Daily Project but I have decided to add another personal project to the mix, a monthly challenge. A group of us at Clickin Moms are challenging one another with a monthly project – choose a theme for the month, shoot, and then post those images on your blog. What a great way to stay creative, challenged, and we’re able to encourage one another along the way! January’s theme was ‘new beginnings’ and my goal on being more creative with lighting was the perfect ‘beginning’ for me.

ClickinWalk 2011

This year I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in, and help organize, the first annual ClickinWalk organized by Clickin Moms. I attended the Oklahoma City Walk with the wonderful leader Jenny of Jennifer Likes Photography. I had an amazing time and had so much fun meeting some CMers who love photography. Can’t wait until next year ladies!

We started at the Oklahoma City National Memorial. As much as I’d love to narrate these pictures, I just can’t find the words.

Then we headed over to Bricktown for some more OKC images.

The CM Admin are in the planning stages of a photo walk for this October as well as a CM retreat for the summer of 2012. The summer version of Pay It Forward just kicked off this week and I’ve already donated an hour of my time to a lucky CM member. I hear there’s some awesome things in the works for CMpro too. It’s good to be a CMer!

There are two major moments that have happened during my photography journey. Today I’m going to talk about the one that took place 3 years ago yesterday (I’ll talk about the other one tomorrow). It was the day I joined a brand new photography forum, Clickin’ Moms. Clickin Moms, aka CM, is such a generous and kind community full of support, encouragement and honesty. My photography has grown leaps and bounds since joining this amazing forum and because of this amazing forum. There is so much knowledge floating around the forum. Earlier this month, I was honored to find out that I was added to the CM team as a mentor. I’m really looking forward to giving back to this wonderful community.

fire training

Some of the surrounding fire departments joined together today for some fire training. Part of their training involved an actual live fire and guess who got to photograph it?! These are just two that I edited quickly but there will be lots more to come.
